Guide - Unlit Candle & Creating signatures w/ links

as not to spam the forum with guides- I'll add new ones
to this page once I make new ones Smile

This effect can be achieved on Photoshop CS and higher.

For all the people that don't know already;

first off, you cannot 'put links in a picture', without using HTML.
so you're not able to make the links like that. there's a way around it though:
you have to crop the final image into several, smaller, images.
example:

before:

after:

after that, you can give every image a link destination via the [url] tags.
Code:
[url=http://smokinelite/user/homepage][img]image.png[/img][url]
[url=http://www.smokinelite.com/f18-graphics/mygraphicsshop][img]link1.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=http://www.smokinelite.com/f18-graphics/mygraphicsportfolio][img]link2.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=http://www.smokinelite.com/pm&r=Relax.][img]link3.jpg[/img][/url]

// links are made up :)
that's it.

This effect can be achieved on Photoshop CS and higher.

resources used;
http://www.slowtrav.com/blog/deborah/susie%27s%20candle.jpg

Open the candle jpg and a new document. for this tutorial I made a new document with dimensions 500x300.
the image alone obviously doesn't fit in there, so I fill the rest of the document with black.

next, erase the flame. I left a little bit of the flame so I could use that as the 'fuse' (idk the word for it scratch ).
just after you blow out a candle, the 'fuse' glows white hot for a moment, so I will not be erasing that part of the 'fuse'.
just erasing the flame makes the 'fuse' very sharp; too sharp. thus, I'm blurring that part of the image. (blur tool, 50 strength)

Now I didn't spend a lot of time on getting the candle look good, since the tutorial's main focus is the smoke effect.
for higher quality output you should put some more work into getting the 'fuse' (deal with it Razz ) look natural.

you're going to draw a kind-of-random shape in a new layer. it doesn't really matter how you do it, but too wide area's usually end up looking more solid as gaseous. you should draw something like I did. the color you use does matter; it will be the color of your smoke. I used #646464, but you can experiment with this. different colors give gifferent effects.

now you're going to apply a 'wave' filter to the smoke layer. go to filter > distort > wave... and copy the following values.

now, press command+F (mac) or ctrl+F (windows) to Fade the Wave effect, and put the fade opacity to 50%.

keep on repeating these until you have somethin like this;
Tip: command+f (mac) or ctrl+f (windows) repeats the previous filter.

Then cut away all the unwanted parts and rotate, scale, move, erase and distort the image until it is exactly like you want.
if you cannot get the desired effect, try these few steps again.

and that's it!
not that hard, right?

good luck with your future signatures!

Tips and tricks:
turning the image once in a while while adding filters will enhance the effect.
you can experiment with the effects of the fade and use different effect every so many times.

Not bad, though why have those first few steps in there? leaves some ugly edges in the bg, maybe add one more to fade those edges

Yeah, I noticed that..
it was only after I finished screenprinting when I figured my #000000 was actually #060606

I should edit those images soon,
maybe tomorrow, as I'm getting a bit sleepy now Razz

It could use a little refining, but this is a pretty cool technique that a lot of people could learn from Smile
