Computer

Post by Omit on 17/4/2014, 3:16 am

Okay so, long story short I have got a £500 volchur for PC World/Curry's and I can only spend it in there, I was wondering if this Computer was decent for things like Battlefield,Call of Duty and FIFA. If you do have time may you find a better one for that price tag if this computer is bad? I'm pretty sure the websites are the same since they are a joint company but I don't know if they have different computers or not Razz

For 500 euros it looks like that's the only prebuilt gaming computer you can buy. The other desktop computers appear to mainly have integrated graphics or very low graphics card which aren't good for gaming. From looking at the pc it appears to be an entry level gaming pc and should be able to handle all the new games like battlefield 4, crysis 3, black ops 2, fifa etc.

From looking at reviews and the specs I think that you will be mainly gaming at between minimum and medium graphics settings for recent games when playing on a 1920 by 1080 monitor. If I were you I would probably spend the voucher on buying parts to upgrade my current desktop if you have one. Buy a new graphics card, cpu etc.

They do have parts but not a wide variety. If I were you I would buy some parts from the store and then buy the rest somewhere else.

You can buy a gpu and motherboard from the store. A CPU as well if you spend 35 euros more

GPU
GTX 760 - 240 euros
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/graphic-tv-cards/graphics-cards/asus-nvidia-geforce-gtx-760-pci-e-graphics-card-2-gb-21743660-pdt.html

MOTHERBOARD
ASUS SABERTOOTH - 160 Euros
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/processors/asus-sabertooth-990fx-r2-0-amd-atx-motherboard-with-am3-socket-21246861-pdt.html

CPU
AMD FX 8320 - 135 Euros
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/processors/amd-fx-8320-black-edition-processor-21311356-pdt.html

This means you would only need a Power Supply Unit, HDD, RAM and a Case which I'm sure you can buy elsewhere. Some possibly PSU, HDD, RAM and Case that's in that store could be.

PSU
Corsair CX750 750W - 80 Euros
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/power-supplies/corsair-cx750-atx-psu-750-w-21891338-pdt.html

HDD
WD WDBH2D0010HNC Mainstream 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - 1 TB- 50 Euros
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/internal-hard-drives/3-5inch-hard-drives/wdbh2d0010hnc-mainstream-3-5-internal-hard-drive-1-tb-21651936-pdt.html?sPageInfo=1_20&sSortInfo=price-asc

CASE
COOLERMASTER HAF 932 Tower PC Case - 120 Euros
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/cases-cooling/cases/coolermaster-haf-932-tower-pc-case-11342074-pdt.html

RAM
CORSAIR Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 DDR3 PC Memory - 8 GB - 75 Euros
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/memory/desktop-memory-dimm/corsair-vengeance-cml8gx3m2a1600c9-ddr3-pc-memory-8-gb-dimm-ram-21019357-pdt.html

You can add other stuff like wifi card, dvd drive/blu ray etc. if you want. The parts I listed above I THINK should be compatible with one another but I haven't gone through and thoroughly checked if they are. Please double check to make sure parts are compatible with one another before you buy.

It's quite easy actually, you're just using very expensive legos.

I don't know, not that keen on building a computer just incase I fuck something up or it doesn't work. Couldn't I buy the prebuilt one and gradually upgrade it? And make it better

You could, but in the end you would still get less bang for your buck and pay extra.
It would be a nice project for yourself to try out. Just google "How to build a PC" and you will get a lot of answers.

What you can do also is you can buy all the parts then take it to a computer shop and ask them to build it for you... this would take about an hour and sometimes they do it for free Razz

However you must check before you buy the parts rofl
