kalphite king guide [under construction]

Hi there!

In this guide I will try to explain how kalphite king's attacks work.

General information

Normal attack speed: 3 seconds
Max hit: 26,271
Life points: 260,000

The kalphite king has three phases: the Meele, the ranged and the mage.  There is no specific order for the phases and which phase the king starts with is random.  The king's attacks never miss, for that reason defence isn't as important as it is for other bosses.  For each of the phases the king will use different attacks but there are some attacks that he will use in more than one phase, those attacks are explained below.  Stunning the king will force him to skip his next attack/move. The king is not immune to deflect damage so curses are recommended.


Stun

Description:

The king will stun whoever stands directly next to him.  The stun lasts for 2 seconds and during this time no abilities can be used except for freedom.  Being under the effect of the anticipation or the freedom ability will completely avoid the stun.

Description:

The king will first stand on his back feet and then plunge into the sand, after  seconds he will emerge gradually under the tank (or the person who was targeting), first for a brief moment showing his "fin" on his back and then emerging completely.  Whoever stands in a tile

hv = healer voker(provoker)
mv = main voker(provoker)
buv = back up voker(provoker)
mt = main tank
dps = attaker
iom = instance on me

The Mage Phase

During the mage phase the king's wings on his back will be blue as shown in the picture above.
The mage phase can be quite easy in solo or even duos but it gets harder as more people are fighting the king, in masses for instance the king is known to kill several people with ease.  During this phase the king is weak to arrows.  He will not use his 1-hitting attack during this phase but he will dig or charge.
His attacks during this phase mainly consist of orange orbs that he fires to each person within his range, protection from magic or deflect magic do not reduce the damage from the orbs except if they are used with the devotion ability, then block 100% of the damage (while under the effects of devotion).  Once an orb reaches a player, it will levitate and eventually explode, damaging every player standing within 5 squares from the explosion.  By the time the king begins the animation the player has approximately 4 to 5 seconds to move five spaces away from their initial position to avoid getting damaged by the explosion.  Players standing far from the king should be very careful because by the time the orb(s) reaches them the five second timer would have expired causing the orb to explode instantly.  An effective way to avoid them if there are too many to just run away from them, is to use the surge/escape ability.

Attacks during the mage phase

Usually deals between 1.5k to 3k damage

Description:

This is the regular orange orb.  Most of the king's attacks during the mage phase would be based on this attack.



Blue orb

Damage: Same damage with orange orb

Description:

Unlike the orange orb it is not possible to avoid this attack (however it is possible to block it).  When the king begins the animation of this attack, the player gets stunned for 4 seconds, 4 seconds is also the time it takes for the orb to reach and damage the player (This orb unlike the others, will not levitate).  Those who know when this attack is going to happen can take advantage of that and use anticipation, then resonance to avoid the stun completely and heal.


Combust

Bleed damage:

The damage per hit almost always is:
221.5 (or 443 if you move), rarely it may hit for less or more (i.e. 258 or 183)

The bleed hits 5 times so the total damage is:
221.5 * 5 = 1107.5 (or up to 2215 if you move)

Description:

The animation of this attack looks exactly like the regular orange orb.  If you are within five squares of the orb when it explodes you get a bleed (combust) effect, and if you move the damage of that bleed will double.  Using freedom will cancel the bleed.


Double orb

Damage: It is just two regular orbs exploding at the same time.

Description:

The king will fire two orange orbs to everyone in the room and each of them will land on a square next to the player (i.e. orb-player-orb).  Since the orange orbs can deal damage of up to 4k each this attack can easily kill somebody instantly especially if he does not keep his health high enough.  Escape and surge can be very useful here if one is surrounded by other people.

Attack order during the mage phase and tips

Special attack rotation:
2 orb attacks > stun > 2 orb attacks > dig > 2 orb attacks > charge  >>  2 orb attacks > stun > 2 orb attacks > dig > 2 orb attacks > charge  >>  2 orb attacks > stun > 2 orb attacks > dig > 2 orb attacks > charge  >>  etc

So the actual rotation would be:
orb > blue orb > stun > combust > orb > dig > double > orb > charge > blue orb > combust > stun > orb > double > dig > orb > blue orb > charge > combust > orb > stun > double > etc

The king may change phase at any time after the 11th stage of the phase (the combust) and he is more likely to do so during the dig, the charge and the stun moves.

When the king charges it is a good idea to use the snipe ability, if you time it perfecly (approximately when he's midway) it will hit him excactly the time he finises his charge.

You should not be using more than 1-2 abilities before moving to avoid heavy damage from the orbs.

Meele is ineffective during the mage phase not only because meele is weak against mage, its easier to avoid the orbs if you are not standing right next to the king.



The ranged phase

During the ranged phase the king's wings on his back will be green as shown on the picture above.  During this phase the king is weak to stab attacks.  He will not charge during this phase but he will use his green attack and he might dig.  During this phase the damage from the king's ranged attack can be halved by using protection from/deflect missles prayers. For small teams or solo it is recommened to use deflect missles (or protect from missles) to reduce the damage but for masses it might be better to stick with soul split (if you are not the tank) since the king can only damage a limited number of people.

Usually deals damage between 200 to 800

Description:

The king will fire three to six darts, one will hit the tank and and the rest will hit random players who are within his range, if there are two people two darts will hit the tank and one will go to the other person, in solo three darts will hit the person who is soloing the king.

Binding shot

Damage: Same damage with ricochet

Description:

This attack is the exactly like ricochet but with the added effect of the binding shot.  This attack will cause a 10 second bind, also whoever gets hit by it will get the binding shot effect which will prevent him from using abilities for the next 10 seconds (except for freedom).  The bind and the fragmentation shot effect can be completely avoided by being under the effects of the anticipation or the freedom ability.

Dazing shot

Description:

This attack will hit everyone whithin the king's attack range and unlike ricochet, it will hit only once per player even in solo.

Fragmentation shot

Bleed damage(per bleed hit):
higest: 264 (or 528 if the person moves) x 5 = 1320
lowest: 156 (or 312 if the person moves) x 5 = 780
Usually hits for 184 (or 368 if the person moves) x = 920

Description:

This attack causes a bleed just like the king's combust attack that last for 5 hits, being under the effects of freedom will cancel it.  This attack will hit one to three players.

Incendiary shot

ricochet + damage from incendiary effect:
Max: 3100
Min: 2300

Description:

The king will shot three darts that that will deal about as much damage ricochet does but they will also have the incendiary shot effect meaning that after 3 seconds those who got hit by the initial dart will get hit again for higer damage.  If soloing, all three darts will hit the person who is soloing, causing tripple damage, and potentially killing the player instantly if not the right prayer/curse is used.
